defintiely be able to cover the distance before signign up for the race a mile swim is a challenge. FWIW check around for a local US masters swim they can help you w/ your for form and help you get there (if not this year then next) have fun

Thanks for the tips, there is a masters swim on base where I work, but it's at a horrible time so, I will be swimming at 6am with a few coworkers that are also training for tri's. Actually the entire swim thing was very disappointing from the standpoint that it was the only sport I did growing up, 7+ years of competitive swimming, of course that was 20+ years ago that I quit. I will get it back!
